For anyone looking for a really neat custom reed case, you have to check out www.kenkasemusic.com.
For little more than the cost of a plain, off-the-shelf reed case, you can get a completely customized reed case. They make them out of all kinds of wood, and you can get them in your choice of finishes. Great quality and they really protect my reeds.
I have had one for about a year and they really hold up great, and the best thing is that everybody that sees it, asks where they can get one. I liked mine so much, I bought another one as a birthday present for my girlfriend who plays clarinet.
Shannon's dad owns the company and makes the cases by hand. I am sure you are going to start seeing more and more of these cases in the near future. Since they are all custom handmade, it takes about 3-4 weeks for them to make a case. Check it out and get your order in before they get busier, which is sure to happen![/list]

Dear jazzfan1958,
I would like to thank you for your kind words about our reed cases. I appreciate hearing that you really like the cases we made for you and your girlfriend.
Believe it or not, I get really excited about each order. It never gets boring building the cases because I use so many different woods, colors for the velvet pads and other customization that it feels like every one I build is totally different.
What is really cool, is that with the word getting around, I have had the priviledge of making custom cases for some pretty famous artists. It's exciting when you think that someone so skilled in their profession, (music), has such a high level of appreciation for my products......awesome feeling!
I take a lot of pride in building each case, regardless of who it is for. I just try to picture the person's reaction when they first open the box after receiving their order. I want them to feel that their money was very well spent.
When I first started making the cases, I pictured them as a fancy storage container / protector for reeds. Now I have people asking me if I sell anything to put the case in to protect it. (They want to protect the case). Unfortunately, I don't currently sell anything to put the case in.....I have recommended that they could use a cotton sock, a clean one of course.
The cherry reed case is starting to look rather nice...I could imagine it in the case of my new Yamaha Custom Z alto...but that will be at a later date. But I will definitely keep KenKase reed cases in mind if I ever intend on purchasing one. _________________ JP
I am definately happy with KenKase products. I bought an alto sax reed case for a friend of mine and she is always proud to pull it out and get the reactions around other musicians of how amazing it looks. It is such a quality product that the tenor player sitting next to her in the big band said he was buying one within 20 seconds of seeing the case.
Of course I have to make a shameless plug about KenKase Reed Cases. My dad manufacturers hand-made wood reed cases that are absolutely beautiful. They are 100% custom to whoever orders them - you can choose which instrument, whether it holds 5 or 10 reeds, the wood, the color of the felt, and if you want your initials, name, or even nickname on the case.
I have at least two for every saxophone, and I cannot live without them.
PS. Jazz fan, please look to make sure that there are no previous threads on the same topic so I don't have to move stuff around again thanks!
